My new dystopian future tales begins with Book One of the Revolution series; 2121: Twilight’s Last Gleaming. This story begins on July 3, 2121 in the Midwestern District of the United States. But this America is nothing like our day and time. Decades of corruption in Washington have bankrupted the nation. The political and social elites construct domes over their pristine inner cities to keep the riffraff out. Those with jobs live in rundown tenements that stretch out from there. At the edge of the cities, massive slums hold the poor and elderly. With no money and little industry, most live in abject squalor and poverty. After the Social Security and Medicare trusts are emptied, there is no social safety net, and the poor and Old Ones have nothing.
This is the story of Jack Kennedy, a fourteen year-old living in the walled farming cooperative (M-125) in southern Iowa. To Jack, life is good, with relative safety, family, friends and adequate food. But nothing good lasts forever. Three IRS agents disappear in the nearby Ottumwa Free City. Jack’s friend, Tom Wainwright, a former IRS agent, goes to find out what happened and Jack hitches a ride to support him. What they discover that night will change the lives of everyone in the co-op. They will see firsthand the depravity that hides beneath the surface of their society.
Soon, the co-op residents will face terrorism and the brutality of life in twenty-second century America. Only God knows if any will ever find safety or peace again.
